Boys Will Be Boys!

As summer break has rolled on, and we have spent lots of time with the boys, Doug and I have found ourselves asking, "How do we get our boys to behave and listen to us?" Yesterday Doug said he was out of answers and we need to find a book somewhere to tell us what to do. Overall, they are great boys - but they are 2 and 4! It can be pretty overwhelming when you feel like you are constantly doing your best, but they still don't listen.

I received a letter today from our 5 year old sponsored child, Juan, who we support through Compassion International. His teacher writes the letters for him since he is not able to write yet. I just have to share a few lines of the translation:

"Juan is very glad to tell you that he and his family are very well and he sends you lots of kisses in gratitude for the lovely (birthday) gift you sent him. He was able to buy two lovely tee shirts and some pretty boxer underwear clothes. Juan's mother greets you and thanks you for this great display of love with her son, but kindly asks you to help her pray for Juan because his behavior is not good and he does not obey her. His performance at school is very good but his teachers argue about his bad behavior. (Note: that sentence was probably worded strangely in the translation) He is constantly moving in the classroom and this is an obstacle in his performance. Juan's mother tells that she talks to him and try to give him good advice but he does not obey her. We also give good advice at Compassion and teach him. We are waiting in The Lord to see his behavior improves, because he is a very happy child and an excellent partner, has many friends and he is always happy. Juan sends you a fraternal hug and says goodbye."

Although, I realize they are very serious in their request - I laughed OUT LOUD when I read this. It just confirms for me that boys are boys no matter what and no matter where. I think all we really can do is pray, pray, and pray some more for them - and then hope for the best!

P.S. Please say a little prayer for Juan if you get a chance and ask that he will learn to manage his behavior! :)
