Handy Mann

Wonder of all wonders, Doug cut our grass for the first time this weekend. Our little "city boy" who grew up in an apartment has always been above yard work and so we had someone else cut the grass. Recently, our yardman quit and so Doug invested in a used lawnmower and decided that this was the weekend for it.
Lack of preparation and general "know how" caused a few frustrations. First of all, he kept complaining how difficult that it was to empty the bag from the small hole at the bottom. After he filled a few bags that way, I gave in and showed him that the other end of the bag opened wide and could easily be dumped in a garbage bag. Then, he continued to make comments about how powerful and fast the mower was and how he could hardly control it. I told him to look for a picture of a Rabbit and Turtle, and sure enough he figured out how to slow it down. Further complaints came when he kept having to stop and empty the bag so often, and I reminded him that this is what happens when the grass gets too long!
Oh well, he did get it done and I was happy he made the effort. Brodie got out and helped too. Why he insisted on wearing a toboggan on his head (tuque for you Canadians) is beyond me. Later he switched to a hockey helmet - which was probably not a bad idea since Doug was the one operating the real mower nearby. Blayd wasn't having any part of it all. Brodie brought him a toy mower and tried to force him to get involved - but he refused.
